Baby Steps

Sometimes I feel like I'm running out of time. I have three semesters left of college, I'd like to do an internship somewhere in there, and figure out my post undergraduate plans. My goal is to go to graduate school for museum studies which means putting time into multiple applications while keeping on track with school work and everything else. Growing up is scary!

Ideally, I would like to intern at a museum this summer but whose to say that I will be accepted for one? On top of that, many of the internships that I'm looking at are unpaid so then there's the worry of how to support myself if I find myself on my own this summer as an intern. I was talking to one of my good friends from high school over break and she was telling me all about how she's taking the GRE in March and how she's been studying and preparing for that. I hadn't even though of actually preparing to take the GRE until she mentioned it. Now it has entered my radar of important things to do.

I know everything will work out in the end; this blog is, after all, dedicated to my striving for a more fulfilled and relaxed life. Regardless of how much I try, it's difficult to keep from stressing out sometimes! I know I can't do everything at once, even though I'd like to. If I put my mind to it, I'll get everything done in time. Spring semester starts tomorrow, which I'm definitely not mentally prepared for. I've been at school for a few days for winter CA training and it has been nice to be back and spend time with friends. However, I'm not prepared for the homework I know I will get tomorrow, even though I only have one class.

Winter break was very enjoyable and I'm glad I had time to relax. I was getting a little restless at home just sitting around and doing nothing, so it will be nice to get back into the swing of things. Breaks are nice but I can only spend so much time doing nothing all day. I'm just not ready for homework! I've been spending the last few days working on my spring semester door decorations (Downton Abbey inspired) and I just put my new bulletin board up this morning. Last night I joined some of the other CA's for a midnight Perkins run. It's a CA tradition we have at Morris where we usually have a Midnight Perkins run once during training. We pile into cars and drive an hour to Alexandria where the nearest Perkins is, and stuff our faces while having some quality staff bonding time. It was really fun last night and and my car got back at three in the morning. It was a great way to forget about everything that I need to do; moments like Midnight Perkins are the ones that I really want to cherish, the moments that I'll look back on in the future and think, "darn, I had fun at college!"

Everything will figure itself out in time but for now, I guess I'll just have to get to work!

Obligatory Happy New Year Post

Okay, so it's not obligatory and I am being sincere!  I do wish the best for you in 2014 if you happen to be reading this!

So far, my New Year has been rather unexciting. Last night one of my oldest friends and I got together which was really nice; we've been friends since elementary school but since sixth grade, we've gone to different schools. Naturally, it has become very difficult to see each other with out busy lives, but we make a point to see each other a few times a year! Last night we made spaghetti and watched a movie. Unfortunately, she had to get up for work this morning so we weren't able to ring in the New Year together. As all my family had plans except for me, I ended up watching another movie, not even realizing it was 2014 until I looked at the clock to see that it was 12:30! Today has been filled with relaxing and reading, etc. So, not much fun but that's fine. I have a whole year to have fun!

Last year was a pretty good year with a few bumps in the road; I was able to get through those though and I believe I have become a better person because of them. Let's hope for the best in 2014!

Here are a few awkward photos from Yule Ball to finish up this post! My school is kind of obsessed with Harry Potter, so we have a Yule Ball a week or so before the end of the semester. It's pretty awesome and I had the pleasure of being in some wonderfully awkward photos during the event! :)
